The numbers are striking. One Chinese manufacturer alone produces more than 40 million sets of oven lamps each year, alongside 60 million ignition pins and 20 million oven junction boxes. That is a single enterprise. Across Guangdong, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu provinces—the primary manufacturing hubs for oven components—the total output is orders of magnitude larger. China has become the undisputed global production base for oven lighting, and the supply chain runs deeper than most buyers realize.
Jiangsu Life Technology, founded in 1991, exemplifies this industrial scale. The company's oven lamps carry UL, CSA, TUV, VDE, CE, and CQC certifications. Its partners include Midea, Haier, Galanz, Bosch, Whirlpool, Electrolux, LG, and Samsung. When a consumer turns on an oven in North America, Europe, or East Asia, the light inside that cavity very likely came from a Chinese factory.
But the oven lamp does not exist in isolation. It is one component in a system. The thermocouple—a temperature-sensing device made of two dissimilar electrical conductors that produce voltage in response to heat—is what tells the oven when to cycle the heating element on and off. Without a functioning thermocouple, the oven cannot maintain consistent temperature. The global thermocouple market is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 4.8 percent through 2034. Thermocouples are used extensively in cooking equipment—ovens, warmers, fryers, toasters, and grills—to provide consistent temperature readings for precise cooking. They are also deployed in automotive spark plugs, cylinder heads, and battery monitoring systems. Oven applications represent a significant and growing segment.
Then there is the igniter. Gas ovens require a reliable ignition source, and China's production capacity here is equally formidable. The domestic gas grill igniter market alone is projected to reach 2.86 billion yuan in 2025, up roughly 15.3 percent from 2023. Electronic pulse igniters now account for 63.7 percent of the market, steadily displacing older piezo designs. The global gas and oil igniter market was valued at approximately $576 million in 2025. China's export volume for oven igniters reached $490 million in 2024, with the United States as the largest destination market.
What ties these components together is the supply chain. The same factories that produce oven lamps also manufacture igniters and thermocouples. A single supplier can deliver the entire suite of electrical components for a gas oven—lamp, igniter, thermocouple, harness, junction box—from a single production line. This vertical integration is what gives Chinese manufacturers their cost advantage and their speed. Certification bodies have taken notice. Multiple Chinese component makers now hold CSA, UL, CE, and VDE approvals, meaning their parts can ship directly into regulated markets without requalification.
The story is not just about volume. It is about capability. As smart ovens and IoT-enabled cooking appliances enter the market, the demand for intelligent ignition systems and integrated lighting is growing. Chinese manufacturers are already moving into that space, developing components with remote diagnostics and adaptive control. The days of the simple oven lamp are over. The industry that produces 40 million of them a year is building the next generation of appliance electronics.
